As many of you know, I started this blog in 2010 during my Independent Study Project. At my high school (Pingry, seen in picture above from school website), all seniors finished classes at the end of April and got to pursue an independent project during the month of May. The project could really be anything — some students took cooking classes, others went on various hikes, some planned a walkathon event, one person built a robot, and the list goes on (as you can imagine, a lot of people goofed off when given this much freedom). I decided to intern at Estee Lauder and volunteer at the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey.
My younger sister is now a senior and this month she is a photo intern at Elle magazine. So cool! From what she’s told me and from the pictures on her blog, this internship seems like a lot of fun. She’s gotten to help out at photoshoots that will appear in the August and September issues of the magazine, and while doing this she has visited glamorous homes and trendy restaurants all over the city. I was actually very surprised and amused when she told me she had to do those classic intern tasks that you hear about in the movies. The other day she was told to find some random object (I forget what it was) and even though she didn’t know where to buy one she basically just had to roam the streets. Also, she had to fetch very specific coffee orders (twice) for 5-6 people! In the pouring rain! I didn’t think they would actually make her do that, but I think it’s great that she’s getting the entire intern experience.
